I think that you mean a Globe Champion rather than a
Globe Chief. The Globe Chief 90, 90A, and Deluxe are
all 90 watt input CW only transmitters. The Globe
Champion, starting with the original model from 1948
(no VFO) through the 300, 300A, 350, and 350A models
(all of which do have a built-in VFO), are all CW / AM
units.

The Globe Champions, especially the 300 through 350A
have, according to many amateurs, some of the best
sounding AM modulation around.

I have a both a Globe Chief 90A (with the optional
SM-90 screen modulator that does allow AM with a
maximum of about 85% modulation and about 45 watts
input power) as well as one of the fairly rare Globe
Champion 350A models. There is really no comparison
between the 90A and the 350A on AM!

Better yet, keep your eyes open for a Viking 500, or a
Globe Chief or Globe King transmitter.
