You don't want to reduce the voltage on the replacement cap..........  I 
would suggest you try two 16ufd, 450 (or higher) volt in series as the 
replacement.  That would give you 8ufd with a 900v capacity.  MUST use the 
same  CAPACITY and VOLTAGE rating when doing this.  Otherwise, disaster!

All of this is from electronics 101 which is many years in my past.  But, the 
formulas still work.
