if the ranger bandswitch shaft is composed of several sections with
couplings.. look for the possiblity of mis-alignment.. (eg wrong coil
tap selected on a given band).

This happens when couplings get loose, and sections get out of synch.

Also inspect closely the pads and wipers of each section of the
bandswitch.
Hot switching, and mechanical problems can cause these to fail.

+ACo- badly oxidized bandswitch wafers can be cleaned with a typewriter
eraser.
Which is a hard eraser in a pencil form.. If you can still find them..
buy all you can..
sharpen to fine point in good pencil sharpener..  this will get your
bandswitches shiney bright.
