[Johnson] Valiant: NEED HELP...

This is my first trip to the list, so if I screw up please let me 
know...have a Valiant that I believe was
modified for SSB..have manuals on order...BAMA did not have what I think 
I need...on the rear apron there is a 5 pin female plug...same as is on 
my Pacemaker...this has a small wire harness that runs over to the Mode 
selector switch....am wondering if this additional wiring is the cause 
of the following: when tuning up it makes no difference between the VFO 
position or the Zero position...still have osc/grid drive...when in VFO 
position with key plugged in ...still have drive...therefore unable to 
operate CW and in the Phone mode...when in standby, it is necessary to 
turn Osc position to one of the xtal positions to stop the zero beat 
....I can see where this mod has interrupted the normal gnd path for the 
'Zero" position...with it disconnected...it solves on problem but 
creates others...in a nutshell...does any one know what this mod may 
be...because at this moment...I want it out of there!!
