Hi Ray,

The Valiant 1st appears in the 1962 catalog. Though the catalog refers
to
"many new operating and performance features", the only difference
really
mentioned is SSB:

SSB OPERATION
--------------
"New in the Valiant II are provisions for plug-in SSB operation with
no internal modifications necessary. Rear panel coax fittings are
provided for VFO output and SSB input, and a 5-pin plug, also located
on the rear panel, provides connections for remote control of the
final amplifier bias and VFO keying through the VOX control of the
SSB adapter."
