Hello John:
I have to agree with you only half way on this. I used to be a "Radio Shack Recruit" back in 1980 on 3rd and Pine Street in Seattle. I was paid min wage myself. I don't think I did that bad a job. Selling parts was pretty good and luckily, my ham radio knowledge helped a bit. I can't, however, forgive poor performance or lackadaiscal attitude. You're suppose to take a job and do the best. I will, however, shift the blame on the manager who hires the employee. Faced with "bottom line" mentality, they will take the lower paying lower salary candidate and call it good. Unfortunately, we customers have to put up with an employee at the lower skill level. I see it every time I go to similar retail outlets...like auto parts stores for example. But I digress.
The sun seems to be setting on Radio Shack for us hams. Just my opinion. I'll get back to my workbench now. Happy building! Cal, N6KYR.

I'll pipe up here to defend Radio Shack a bit... it's going to be
a shame when and if they stop selling parts, in their quest to become a mini
Circuit-City. I think it's misguided and something they'll regret. however
for all the griping about their poor service, they're mighty handy to have
around late Saturday PM, when you find you need just ONE more 47 ohm
resistor, or DPDT switch to complete a project.

Having briefly done a stint (once was enough, thank you!) working
in a retail outlet to earn bux while at school, I can tell you that dealing
with the general public for 8 hours a day is no picnic.

Cut 'em some slack. How'd you like to be earning minimum wage while
dealing with someone like you all day long!? :-)
