I don't have a valiant so don't know the particulars of it. But what you want to end up with when neutralizing is to have grid current peak slightly at exactly plate current dip and have maximum output at exactly plate current dip. There should be the same rate of rise in plate current either side of resonance. In other words when it is not neutralized properly you will find that the plate current may increase more rapidly as you tune on one side of
dip than it does on the other side.
All that said, I would try adjusting the neutralizing cap for maximum output at plate current dip. You will be able to tell which way to go with the neutralizing cap by watching which side of dip produces maximum output. That is how I usually neutralize a transmitter. It is much easier than disconnecting stuff and watching for feed through power.
When you get done maximum power out should be at the exact center of plate current dip and the tuning should be smooth through the dip, the same current rise on either side.

Following the suggestions in the manual, I have gone over the procedure time and again and still can't find a point where there is little or no change in grid current as the final is changed. As I adjust the neut. cap, the change has been miniscule so I don't think I'm missing the "spot." I have tried 6146 and 6146A's. Has anyone run into this problem? Any ideas would be appreciated.
