I would propose a similar method...except you make your own. I have said
for ages that THE way to add a 3 wire cord and a fuse box to the Ranger
w/o making new holes is to add a minibox in series with the new line
cord, complete with one fuse on the hot side. I would suggest a further
addition to this would be a switch, providing the ability to leave that
function switch in its ON position. Finally, if you have any kind of
custom operating console/etc. or want to just use a small diecast box in
a convenient location, you could remote the switch to your desktop.

Finding some of these switches once they burn out is getting to be
rather difficult. What I did for my NCX-5, and would work fine for
Johnson gear too, is to buy one of those outlet strips for sale at the
hardware store with an integral on/off switch. You can get them for a
few dollars. I leave the switch in the radio in the on position, and
turn it off and on with the switch on the outlet strip. This method
does not require any mods to the radio, and is much cheaper and easier.
