I can't speak as to whether the shield was originally there in all
Couriers that were made, but it certainly is there in mine, and
clearly original equipment.

They may have had troubles from the RF messing with the 866's, hence
the shield.

Also, sometimes photographers will remove shields and covers just so
everything is in view for the photo.
