Mike,
Well you indeed appear to be in the lead for the coveted first of the
High Power Millen (HPM) Awards, not to be confused with that Hiram Percy
dude, hi.
Oh yes, you have one of those collectable 100th Anniversary W1HRX cards.
That reminds me as I wanted to snap a picture of all the QSL's we
received for that event back in 2001 to add to our JMS website. Now I
will need to go through the cards again and check for yours Mike.
Mike, I forget is your speech amp homebrew or a converted commercial
audio amplifier? At least the EL34's are reasonably priced if you find
the Russian tubes, or dirt cheap for the China versions. I use an old
Dynaco ST-70 for my main stereo amp on the home audio system which uses
P-P EL34's. Sorry I'm holding onto my set of RCA backup's to keep that
system perking for years to come, hi.
Email the group when your ready to smoke test. Maybe we can get a
Millen EQ round table going on 75M or 40M.

Hello Don et al,
Well, the big rig is completed--just working on the speech amp etc. and
the control circutry and I will give it a smoke test!
The transmitter is using the 90881 amplifier with a pair of 812As
modulated by a pair of 811As. The excitation of the 812s is provided by
either a Ranger that will provide both RF and audio, or a 90800 Millen
Exciter providing the RF and a seperate speech amp providing the audio.
In the rack I also have a Millen scope too. A homebrew power supply
takes care of the Millen exciter 6L6 and 807.
I also have the a Millen scope for monitoring modulation percentage.
So to sum it up here is the rack setup for the transmitter:
Millen 90881 Amplifier
Millen Scope
Homebrew 811A Modulator
Millen 90800 Exciter
Homebrew LV supply for exciter
I also have a Millen Power Supply that puts out 600/750 volts for the
exciter, but I want to restore it completely before I take out the
homebrew supply and replace it with the Millen supply.
Don, I should be running smoke tests as soon as I find some EL34 tubes
for the speech amp and correct a minor problem in the Johnson Ranger.
Will keep you informed as I go along and getting this beauty on the air
soon!
Vy 73,
Mike, W2NVR
P.S: I worked the Millen station some years ago and have that great QSL
card. I am sorry I couldn't make the recent AM party. Maybe next year!
I will take and send some photos of the transmitter next week to all of
you.
