active".  It is that "somehow" that has eluded me.

I've recently had the experience of getting together an "alumni group" from my High School Radio Club.  The club started somewhere around 1950 and exists to this day.  I managed to find about a dozen former members, and I invited them all via e-mail to join in an "on-the-air reunion."  So far we have had three such meetings, spaced by a month, on 7293.  Guys have called in from all over the country.  They seem to be enjoying it, and the monthly get-togethers appear to be something that will continue.  

You might try organizing something similar for the JMS membership.
