Subject: [kyham] Now Serving Raspberry Pi
Before you get your taste buds excited for food, let me tell you, it's not
food. But for anyone who drools for technical goodies, this is for you.
The Raspberry Pi is actually a little computer you can get for around $35.
Add a USB keyboard and mouse, a 5-volt supply, a 8 gigabyte memory card and
connect it to a HDMI TV or monitor and you're set. The operating system is
open source (read as FREE). It also has connections so you can connect it to
lots of little projects - some that can be used with ham radio.
At Greater Louisville Hamfest 2016 and Kentucky ARRL State Convention on
Saturday, September 10th, there will be a Technical Session on Raspberry Pi,
SDR and more by Chuck Milam N9KY and/or others. This will giver everyone an
on-hands demonstration on just what you can do with the Raspberry Pi and the
exciting ways it can be used for amateur radio projects. You'll want to
check this out.
And speaking of forums, all the timeslots are filled with interesting and
informative programs. We've previously mentioned the introduction to the
Solar Eclipse Event Station happening next year in Kentucky, being
championed by the Star Geezer himself, Mark Williams K9GX. And Hal Turley
W8HC will be talking about his adventure with the K5P DXpedition to Palmyra
Atoll. Also, be sure to check out the KYDXA / Kentucky Contest Group Forum.
All these programs will be - for the first time - in the upstairs room at
Paroquet Springs Conference Centre. An elevator is available for anyone
needing easy access to the second floor.
Ever wondered how repeaters get coordinated? A forum on SERA & Repeater
Coordination Issues will be presented by Bill, KJ4W. Find out what the
SouthEastern Repeater Association, Inc. does to make sure all our repeaters
can share the airwaves without interference. SERA is a non-profit
organization whose livelihood depends on the support of their full and
associate members, the publication of the SERA Repeater Journal, and the
monetary fees received.
Of course, We have to remind you about the Royal Order of the Wouff Hong
Ceremony. It will be at high noon and it's something every ham should be
part of. It was 14 years ago that this honored ritual was presented here in
Louisville, and this year will be a rare opportunity to attend. Each
attendee will receive a certificate, but to have that ready, you need to
sign up at http://louisvillehamfest.com/wouffhong.htm so they can be printed
in advance. All attendees must be a licensed ham and a member of the ARRL.
Not an ARRL member yet? Go to http://www.arrl.org/membership to learn the
advantages of membership and how the ARRL works for hams. Just how important
is it? All our local clubs - ARTS, BARS, CCARC and KYDXA - are ARRL
Affiliated Clubs. And GLH-2016 is proudly an ARRL Approved Hamfest - and has
been for many years.
Admission Tickets to GLH-2016 are available now from the GLHA Team at local
club meetings, by mailing in a flyer at

GLH-2016 Online Store at http://store.louisvillehamfest.com/. The flyer and
the store are also a where you can reserve your indoor spaces - 6 foot
tables this year - and tailgating spaces. GLHA Team Members will also accept
your forms and payment checks at your club meetings.
We are having our next GLHA Meeting at 6:30pm on Tuesday, June 14th at the
Red Cross building in downtown Louisville. More will be discussed then and
we will have another update on this really big shoe... uh, show soon.
