[InHam] [Please pardon the OT] Pirate Station Using my Call...

Please forgive me the OT post, but this really gets under my skin.

This is a real good argument to fingerprint any & all stations that
you hear on the air & to use APRS DF, so when something like this
happens you can track down the station easier. Several years ago, I
fielded a report from a local ham that another local ham pirated my
call on packet where in he sent out obscene/profane packets to other
local packet stations.

Needless to say, after I heard that, I was thinking obscene/profane thoughts laced w/malice about the op who pirated my call.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a packet station on the air at the time, so I couldn't catch him in the act, so I didn't pursue it.

But critters like that idiot are not above that kind of crap & do
it for as many different reasons as there are critters doing it.

This is also a good argument for good old fashioned FOX HUNTING.

I hear the hams in Chicago, IL that hunt every Saturday night, are very good & very competitive.

This is another reason to monitor different repeaters & simplex freqs.

Again please forgive me for the OT post, but this really gets me going
in the wrong direction & besides, I want to help Steve-N2FT.

Thankyou.

Pirate Station Using my Call, N2FT

There are certain things about this that rings bells in my head as
this has happend around this area... as Henry,me (kb9ygd and certain
others that talk on channel 36 am can attest to!
Read Article Below
I couldn't believe my ears during the recent ARRL DX Phone Contest
when I heard another station using my call. Subsequently a number of
stations told me that they had worked me already in the contest. I use
a computerized logging program and none of them were in my log. Earlier
in the year I had several stations comment they had worked me recently
when they had not. Most, but not all, of my activity the last few years
has been in the ARRL and CQ DX contests and a local Northern Virginia 2
Meter repeater. If anyone has worked N2FT please drop me an e-mail at stephenpjohnson at cox.net. I have already notified the FCC and the ARRL contest manager.
