[ILQSO] LOG DEADLINES

While we may not receive that many paper logs, but there are a few that log
on paper and type their log into a computer after the contest. I can see
mobile and portable stations doing that. Now, if a mobile station came from
outside of Illinois and then has to drive several hours after the contest to
get home, I doubt they will get a log uploaded within the first day or two
and if they logged on paper and have to enter the log into a computer, even
five days would be a rush.
I agree, I would like to see the log deadline moved up, but anything shorter
than 10 days or two weeks might put extra burden on a few stations. We could
refuse paper log entries, I don't think that would have any impact on
participation to speak of, but shortening the log deadline too much could.
Dennis, if you cannot convince those portable stations to go to computer
logging, maybe you could use some help entering the paper logs into the
computer. I would be glad to handle a few and I suspect there a few others
willing to help.

Subject: [ILQSO] LOG DEADLINES
Hey troops,
I'm curious about something: More and more contests are dropping the log
submission deadlines from the usual 30 days down to ....a lot less in some
cases. I'd like an opinion (please check one or more):
1) For a QSO party, 30 days is fine. Lots of participants are casual, and
it may take them 30 days to figure out how to submit a log. Plus that gives
the sponsors time to bug the ones that haven't sent a log yet.
2) In the interest of getting quicker results, 10-14 days is appropriate for
a log submission deadline.
3) When the contest is over, it's over. I can create a Cabrillo file in 5
minutes and e-mail it while I'm thinking about it. 3-7 days is plenty for a
deadline.
Other random thoughts? Thanks, 73, Jim N9JF
