Jim,
Thanks for posting the rules and for helping with the contest. Per what
you said about the proper county abbreviation, it would really help other
contesters if stations on phone give out the county abbreviation instead of
the county name. Several counties sound alike (Mason vs Macon) and the
proper abbreviation is not always apparent by the county name. This is not
unique to the Illinois QSO party, but I have had this issue with plenty of
QSO parties. Actually, I have run the ILQP enough I know the county
abbreviations by heart, but many other operators wouldn't.
It also helps if stations on phone give their call phonetically. Many
letters sound alike, and their are times I have had to hang around for
several QSOs after working a station to determine what their proper call
is. Giving out phonetics only takes another couple of seconds, and really
helps out operators on the other end.
Of course these issues would be avoided if I stuck to CW only ........
