Thanks for bring this up Craig.
Most experienced mobile operators try to use the same frequency on each band
when possible, it does make it much easier for others to find them. Starting
on 40 meters is a bonus, but I am sure there are times when a mobile is on a
different band and has a good rate going, they may not want to switch bands
immediately.
Spot the mobiles! They are doing this on their own dime and at their own
peril, we want to help them maximize their efforts all we can. When spotting
the mobiles, make sure you include the county in the spot. If you use the
W6RK County Hunters network http://ch.w6rk.com/ you will have to include the
county. If you use the normal DX spotting network, you will most likely have
to manually ad the county in the notes section of the spot.
Yes, 2 meter FM could be a big difference is total scores, depending on your
location. Even in the Quincy area it would be possible to add 20 or more
QSO's to a log on 2 meter alone. We have traditionally used 146.55 simplex
and encourage everyone to leave a radio on that frequency during the
contest, when things slow down a bit, even call CQ ILQP on 146.55 We do ask
ILQP participants to avoid tying up 146.52 if at all possible.
I do not remember exactly what frequency we suggested for 6 meters in the
past, but I do know it was not 50.125 for SSB. I suggest 50. 140 to 50.150
for 6 meter SSB. The CW folks will likely hang out near the top edge of the
CW sub-band, probably 50.095. I do not know that anyone uses 6 meter FM for
ILQP but I am sure the activity there would be very low, so using the 52.525
frequency should not be a problem.

May I suggest a couple of things to the mobiles....
1, Please go to 40m on county changes so that the IL stations have a chance
to work you.
2. Let's keep a mobile window open...say 40 to 45 from the bottom of the
band
3. You should always go to the same freq. on each band....W9IL/m 41 W9AA/n
42, etc. that way we can watch for you and know it is you.
4. Be aware of us calling you on backscatter from IL...we won't be as
strong!
5. All of us can probably work a lot of mobiles on 2m FM. Can we say that
146.55 is the IQP calling freq?
Maybe others have suggestions too....anything to help increase scores!!
Thanks for doing the mobile duties...it is sincerely appreciated.
