Well it has been quite a week since the ILQP. The weather for the party was
great, at least on the Henry/Knox County line. Then the snow arrived to
settle the dust and give us a taste of cold weather. But I did finally get
all of the contest gear stored away in the garage, just hope I can find it
next year! The log is submitted and now to wait for the results.
Tim, N9BIL and I have operated in various ILQPs as mobiles or in portable
operations. This year we decided to do something a little different, a
portable QRP operation. Gary, NS0A was in the process of converting a
utility trailer for use with the Henry County Emergency Services and we
convinced him that using it in the ILQP would be a good initiation for it.
Gary would run PSK31 and also test some of the software and VHF/UHF radios
while on the county line.
Everything came together nicely and worked well for both stations. Tim and I
did experience a little interstation interference from the packet station
but it was nothing that caused any great problem.
Per the logging software our totals looked like this:
==========================
160 0 0 0
80 126 0 5
40 344 0 87
20 88 0 16
15 18 0 3
10 0 0 0
6 0 0 0
2 0 0 0
Number of Phone Contacts : 0 * 1pts = 0 pts
Number of CW Contacts : 576 * 2pts = 1152 pts
Multipliers : 110 IL Counties/State/Prov
Extra Mult for IL : 1
Extra DX Mults : 5 (5 max)
Contact Points : 1152
Total Mults : 116
Claimed Score : 133632
As everyone knows there are some really good operators in the ILQP. For
example was amazing to us how W9MSE and KF9D consistently found our 5 watts
in their pileups. Really good ears!!
All went well and we had fun. Would we do another QRP portable, county line
operation? You bet, look for us next year.
Pete, NN9K
