[ILQSO] On Lake Carlyle...

Tnx, Danny:

Two items concern me.

1. I looked at renting a pontoon boat from one of several of the nearby
marinas - they all say the boat must be returned by 7 p.m. That's
0100Z The ILQP times say I could operate until that time but I need at
least 30 minutes or so to motor back to the dock and check in. Guess
this isn't insurmountable, since I'm never in real contention for a plaque.

2. The pictures of the pontoon boats I see wouldn't provide much
protection from the weather. When I was at the Champaign, Vermillion,
Douglas, Edgar county corner I about froze because of low 40's
temperatures and 30+ MPH winds. I had to move into my automobile every
couple hours to warm up for 15 minutes or so. :) These olde bones are
even a bit more creaky that 5 years or so ago when I was there!

The upside - the Corps of Engineers say the lake is quite shallow, so
anchoring at or near the county intersection would be possible.
Downside - $400 per day plus fuel is outside my usual budget for such an
expedition, but there are always exception. Maybe I could find a
willing ham who has a pontoon boat to loan for less? :)

Lettuce c what happens in the next couple years. Maybe I could be the
first county line Maritime Mobile (not really, to be Maritime Mobile one
needs to be outside the territorial waters of a sovereign country,) but.....

You've got me thinking.

It does say some awards programs do not recognize operation from a "wet" county line, it says nothing at all about operating on lake in a boat (or otherwise). I was under the impression no "wet" county lines were allowed, but it appears that is not correct. I know of a county line on the Sangamon Rover where you could activate a couple of semi-rare counties, Mason and Menard.
