[ILQSO] Fixed or Portable?

That is perfectly fine Ric, that is the class that fits your operation. Yes,
typically a portable station will be on a county line or corner, but does
not have to be. The key is the use of an existing antenna system, that would
put you in the fixed class. A fixed station can only operate from one
county, even if it does sit on a county line or corner. The portable station
can claim up to 8 points per QSO (for CW), depending on whether it is a
single county or on the line of two counties or even on a 3 or 4 county
corner. Mobile and rover stations have a points advantage as well as they
get to work everyone again once they change counties. You will only compete
against others in your class.

Glad to have you come play with us.

Subject: [ILQSO] Fixed or Portable?

Thanks to all responding to my "TAZE or TAZW" post.

Please forgive me if I'm opening a 'can of worms' with this next question
but I'm genuinely conflicted over which class to enter, given my particular
circumstances. If this is a 'can of worms' I'd prefer it be open, rather
than closed, as I'm not interested in hiding anything. I need help
interpreting the rules for the Illinois QSO Party.

Will the enforcer of the rules disqualify me for entering as an "Illinois
Fixed" station by operating my non-permanent station from a single county
(at my dad's QTH) as wo4o/9?

According to the rules:

1. Illinois Fixed Station: Permanent station location, single county.
2. Illinois Portable: Not a permanent station location; antennas erected for
the purpose of the contest; may be on a county line or corner.

>From the records I've seen, it appears the "Portable" stations operate on a
county line or a corner and the scores of the top "Portable" stations are
larger than the top "Fixed" stations.

I'm not sure I would fit into the "Illinois Portable" class because I would
be operating from a single county (Tazewell). It seems I'd be at a
disadvantage against the other Portables operating on a county line or a
corner. Therefore, because I'll be operating from a single county, it seems
more equitable for me to compete with the "Fixed" stations. (I suppose to
avoid splitting hairs, I could establish my portable station as a
"permanent" station at my dad's QTH and become a legitimate "Illinois Fixed"
station by operating from IL in more than only the IlQP on-air
activity. -hi)

Constructive comments?
