On a topic somewhat related to IQP, I want to put in a plug for the Society of Midwest Contesters (SMC). Many amateurs that have participated in the Illinois QSO Party over the years are members of SMC. In fact, there is a good amount of activity on the SMC reflector encouraging everyone to get on the IQP. So, for those in this user’s group that are not yet members of SMC, I cordially invite you to join the club. We are looking for people that love to contest, and want to build up our numbers for both HF and VHF contests.

Please note that SMC members participate in the IQP as members of other local clubs or as individuals. So everyone can be a member of a local club as well as SMC without being concerned as to which club to enter the IQP with. Just enter the IQP as a member of a local club.

SMC is an exciting club to belong to. We won Unlimited gavels in both the ARRL 160 and the June VHF QSO Party in 2007, and we have many plans underway for contesting efforts in other events, including the upcoming Sweepstakes (we are really pushing Sweeps right now). If you live in the Midwest within 175 miles of Bloomington, Illinois and are into contesting, then please consider joining SMC – we have many hundreds of members, but are always looking for more. If you are interested, then please go to the club web-site at: http://www.w9smc.com/ and you can find info on the club and on membership.

If you have any questions regarding the club, please e-mail me at W9GKA at arrl.net.
