The only problem is you can reduce the number of random QSO's with
general class ops by CQing outside of their privs. With all the new
entry level HF guys, it is somewhat beneficial to stay in their
privs. I'm sure I have a different perspective on this since I work
so many uniques each year.
If you notice most of the activity on 40 in all QSO parties is above
.225. I would think staying above 3850 is a wise choice except for
the "I sleep with my sister" or "the country cousins in love" nets
who think they own 5KHz each side of their usual net freq. I guess
it is a trade off for what you plan to do on SSB.
Every year someone tells me to move on 40m because a net is coming up
in 20 minutes. I always ask them to move up 1.5 and I will move down
1.5, but it rarely happens that way. Then it turns into a
QRMfest. Luckily, I am loud enough on 40 and have been the same spot
for 3 hours that they go away. It's worth the issues since there are
tons of Qs to be had above 7.225. If I was CQing at 7128, I doubt
there would be as many stations to work. YMMV
