Good point. As in any case, any sort of emergency or priority traffic
on a frequency takes precedent over contesting, no matter how important
we consider ILQP :)

Subject: [ILQSO] RE:2 Meter Simplex Frequency

Just a comment about the 146.55 Mhz 2 Meter Simplex frequency that's
been mentioned in previous newsletters. This is also THE main simplex
frequency used for ARES operations on a national level as well as in the
State of Illinois. Our group used it during this last fall's statewide
earthquake drill to test our ability to communicate county-wide via
simplex operations. It's also the recognized national calling frequency
for storm spotters during severe weather that may not be familiar with
the local repeater or skywarn frequencies used while traveling through
areas they are unfamiliar with.

If we use this frequency we should stay alert in case it's already in
use, or if someone NEEDS it to conduct emergency communications in case
some emergency or disaster just happens to pop up. Just my 2 cents
worth.
