Sounds like to me that some factions are looking to squash or radically
change the ILQP county portable operations. Yes, the ILQP is different than
the others, but that is what makes it unique. I know, I know, I have been
on the winning county portable team for the last four years but it comes
with a price. Do you think it is easy? I would rather be at home operating
but the challenges that present itself in this contest are worthwhile. I
have an excellent contest partner( Mike, KN9T) who has given me inspiration
my whole Amatuer Radio career (25 years) and I am honored to do it every
year. We drive early in the morning over 80 miles and spend 3+ hours setting
up and another hour and a half after it is done tearing it all down in the
dark and sometimes in the cold (remember last year,N8XX?). I am not against
change at all so please don't missunderstand me. Our contest is the best and
I believe the WIARC will do as good of job as RAMS did. I can live with any
decision they make. I don't think of the ILQP as a county hunters contest
but our contest. I know the 4 county corner operations have an advantage and
I hope someone has an answer to this because I don't. I'll be the first to
admit that I like to win, who doesn't?!? But it isn't given away, it must be
earned. I know the Fixed category has fierce competition in it but it isn't
split up into high power and low power ie.100 watts. I haven't heard anyone
mention that. I think that the WIARC will be examining everything. It might
take a few years to do things, will have to see. I don't envy their job but I
have much faith in them. Last year's operation was well done and for their
first year, they did a bang up job. Congratulations. I don't ever want to
offend anyone with this post, I just have my opinion. I will look forward to
each contest no matter what happens. Good luck to all. 73, Mike N9GZ
