John,

Just because I am in Wisconsin shouldn't bias me for or against. I have
the WQP operated every year since 1997, twice as a mobile and at home
since then. Our 7-hour, Sunday-afternoon format is pretty good for
fixed or mobile operators. Those long contests, especially the 48-hour
ones, are BORING.

I also like the single-county rule. When someone says they are in a
county, they are supposed to really be there, not 100 yards the other
side of the line or running a radial. I know what the rules say, and I
know what's real and what's a fantasy.

The 1x1 "special event" calls are a real pain to qsl and I only worked
one in the OK contest. Poor conditions meant I didn't try too hard. I
hope no one in Wisconsin tries that stupid idea (hint hint to the IL
people). Why not use the first letter of your suffix to help spell out
something clever, instead of 1x1s? (Disclaimer: K9OT and I would both
qualify to spell out ILLINOIS, so this is a biased idea.) Can't you
just have a good contest without gimmicks?

Having lots of counties on is the best part of a good contest. IL has a
great reflector and I love the PDF map of who's going to be in what
county. We both do IL single-ops every year from a friend's QTH about
an hour south of home. We just don't like the county-line rule.

As a sideband-only op, it would be nice if there were more mobiles on
sideband, but I understand the limitations. If 40 is long, be prepared
for 80, preferably above 3800 on sideband. Remember that state and
province mults count just like county mults.
