Wayne:

I'm Corn Whiskey diehard, but any of the things listed will be okay.
I'll try to get on SSB, but my efforts will primarily be with Corn
Whiskey. On Phone (when I get to the phone bands, I'll say something
like CQ Illinois QSO Party this is N9Q - and occasionally say where I
am, but not very often. On CW I'll be sending CQ ILQP de N9Q K (or IQP,
whichever I find other folks sending). Occasionally I might send CQ
IlQP de N9Q CHAM/DOUG/EDGR/VERM K, though that will take a lot of extra
time and probably not add much attractiveness to the CQ. The portable
designation isn't necessary by the FCC, and shouldn't be necessary in
the contest. If it is, I'll be disqualified, and I won't really care.

I'd hazard a guess that most folks won't bother with the /p or /m just
put in AA9DY when they log your station. At least that's what I'll do,
just put AA9DY. You may use N9Q or N9Q/whatever if you want to be very
particular,

If the scoring folks don't like it, that's their problemme. I'm not
really in it for the score, though it would be nice to be listed,
usually near the bottom, but at least listed. :) The Federal Candy
Company hasn't required such a portable or mobile designation for
years. I've never used it on any OQP or MiQP expeditions. It probably
would help for a mobile to sign /m or mobile or /8 or whatever, since
the signal wouldn't be very loud. But a portable station can compete
with many home stations, unless the person who is setting of the station
is a compleat idiot when it comes to antenna theory and practice, so
I've never found a /8 ID to be useful. It just takes up more time in
the keying circuitry.
