Had a wonderful time in this year's ILQP. Don't have a QSO count as KN9T
has the logs. Will know in a few days a rough estimate on how we did. The
weather was fairly nice but the temps dropped fast when the sun went down
out in the boondocks. Left home at 6:30 am and got home just after
midnight. It is a long haul to the site. Many thanks to Wayne, KA9IMX, who
assisted in setting up the portable station. The full moon helped some
when we tore it all down. The generator worked flawlessly but smoked the
amplifier a half hour into the contest. What a bummer!!!! As I was doing a
SSB run on 20 meters, I smelled smoke and then saw it curling out the top
of the amp. Uh-oh! Burned up a cap. Next year we will bring two amps!
Operated about 70% cw this year. 75 meter phone sucked and was harrassed
by some ops who were very rude. Don't need that! Other than that, we had a
pretty fun contest. Can't wait for next year already! Seems to me we
missed some states like NV,ND,ID,AK,CT and Hawaii. Did work some DL's tho.
We operated from my Haulmark cargo trailer parked in the ditch. Works good
but don't try to stand up straight as I still have a few lumps on my
noggin'. Sure liked the one hour earlier start time. The time did seem to
go faster like NE0P said. I hope we did well and will be bugging Mike,KN9T
to see how we faired. Thanks for another outstanding QSO party!!! It is
interesting to hear how everybody's day went. Nice to hear and work WA3HAE
and K4BAI who are big out of state supporters. Thanks! 73, Mike, N9GZ
