I'm fairly new to the contesting and special event type operations and would like a clarification on the classes you can submit your log under.
The five classes given are Illinois Fixed, Illinois Mobile, Illinois County-Line Fixed Portable, Outside Illinois, and QRP. The last two are easy enough to understand. Here are the questions.
Does Illinois Mobile only refer to opertors that are actively driving or moving about as they make contacts, or can it be from a mobile station at rest as well?
If you use another antenna other than a mobile antenna, ie a dipole strung up into a nearby tree, then fed by coax to your rig in your vehicle, are you still a mobile or are you now a portable?
If you are a portable, if the answer to the previous question determines that, and not on a county line, are you now an Illinois Fixed?
If these questions are confusing you, just think how I feel !
The reason I'm asking is my operations are from my mobile, no station set up in the home QTH at this time. I have a variety of homebrew antennas for all of the HF frequencies being allowed in the contest, however none of them, other than my 20 meter hamstick-type, can be connected to operate while I'm in motion. Well I suppose I could drive down the road with them dragging behind at the end of the coax, but I doubt I'd get many contacts like that. Thanks for any input.
