Jim,
Last year was the first time I worked the QSO party (I haven't been a
contester). I jumped in to get my feet wet and ended up regretting that I
didn't keep a better log. In consideration of the past year's scores, I
would have done very well in total points! No doubt because I'm down here
in a low participant county (Clark), and I was a multiplier for lots of
folks. I'll damn sure be ready to go this year.
Since I'm new to the contest I'd really like a chance to earn a
certificate. And when I look at the categories awarded, it's evident that
my best chance to earn a certificate is in the fixed station category.
For you guys in the high participant counties there is more incentive (in
consideration of earning a certificate) to go mobile. But I'm sitting
down here with a good signal working pile-ups of folks after another
multiplier. I stand a chance to finish in the top 10 fixed stations.
What are my chances of finishing in the top 5 of mobile?
Perhaps most folks aren't certificate chasers. But I would think that if
mobile participation is important to the success of a Party, then at least
give mobiles equal status in certificate awards.
After last year, I can imagine the pile-ups I'd get to work operating as a
county line portable at Clark/Crawford. But since I'm chasing paper, it'd
be foolish for me to work a category that only receives recognition for
the top point station.
Just my 2 cents worth,
73,
