Subject: [ILQSO] updated ILQP plans

Illinois QSO Party plans as of 5 October 2003:

Okay, troops, here's how it looks from what I've seen and heard the last few
weeks. I think I'm missing a couple of posts
that are on another computer, so if I neglect to mention your plans, just
send 'em again. Sorry about that! The same
goes if you've changed your plans or if I've misinterpreted what you've
posted or told me.

I'll reformat this at a later time

Counties missed in 2002 were Calhoun and Henderson. It is likely that
Calhoun will be covered by one or more of the
following: KB0WIL (SSB), W3DYA (CW), NA9Q (BOTH?), NG9R (BOTH?) That
doesn't mean ANY of you should cancel
Calhoun from your itinerary! It's a small county and there ARE NOT MANY
ROADS!

Henderson is a bit scary right at the moment. No one has spoken for it.
NN9K, do you have room in your schedule for even
a short stop there (oops...I said "short stop"...listening to the Cubbies
win....)? My mobile rig is being repaired at the
moment. If it doesn't return by mid-October, I'll do a portable operation
somewhere; and Henderson/McDonough/Warren is a
possibility.

There are several mobile operations in the southern half of the state; but
there is a good mix of SSB and CW and it doesn't
look like any two of them will be in the same counties at the same times
except by happy accident. (I personally could
stand to work another nearby mobile or two!!). We could use another
operation or two down there.

It appears that the area north of Springfield is a bit sparsely mentioned,
but I think there are a few to be heard from in that area.
I'm thinking of Mason, Menard, Marshall, Putnam and Stark. Anyone?? N9GZ
will NOT be in Putnam this year as he is
working with KN9T.

Oh, and nobody has "claimed" Cook, Lake, DuPage, Kane, Will or Kankakee
yet....

The Cal party this weekend was a study in organization with a caveat. Most
counties were well-covered; there are a LOT
of hams in California, including some really "big gun" contest stations. On
the other hand, they have only 58 counties to cover.
I found only one station in Plumas County and missed the ONE MOBILE who went
through Glenn County on Sunday morning.
There were not many active mobiles. Having driven in central California in
the last month, it's not hard for me to understand why.
Traffic is awful, and engineers have a bad habit of putting highways at the
bottoms of the canyons! Fifteen meters was dynamite,
especially on Saturday; it was so good, in fact, that 20 was sparsely
populated. California stations apparently did pretty well on
ten meters, but propagation from there to the Midwest was nothing to brag
about.
