Jim, N9JF asked where we were operating from on the Cass/Morgan Co. =
line.
I guess it is OK to let everyone know where we were, as next year we =
plan to stay home and operate with our new tower and beam. We were north =
of Meredosia on "County Line Road." It runs from Highway 67 to Meredosia =
Lake. There are three GREAT places there to set up. The first 2 are made =
for vertical antennas. Wide open, away from power lines. Just pull off =
the road, clamp the vertical antenna to an existing post, and operate. =
These are on the public right-of-way! We went on west to the levy. There =
you find a gravel pull-off area where the road turns to the south. Nice =
trees, no power lines. We set up a portable picnic table at the edge of =
the road, threw a rope over a tree limb for the antenna, and sat in the =
sun enjoying the birds fly around in the wildlife refuge. If anyone is =
interested in operating from there in the future I would be happy to =
give them accurate directions. I also know of a great place on the =
Sangamon/Christian line. It is under a pavilion at a State Park. There =
are trees about 100 feet on either side of the pavilion. I have spoken =
with the Ranger about using it- no problem if you let them know in =
advance! For a mobile no advance notice is needed as there is a parking =
lot right next to the pavilion. I hope someone will activate these spots =
next year.
