The Scout's Space Jam 6, spacejamboree.com kicks off this year with
two simultaneous balloon
flights launching at flags on Saturday morning, August 4 at 7:45 CDT
(1245 UTC). Sunday we have a 5AM ARISS contact via WB9SA, Space Jam's
sixth contact with the ISS (search YouTube.com with "Crew 272 ISS
Space Jam" to see them).
WB9SA will provide net control of the Earth-Balloon-Earth
communications: uplink: 144.36 MHz (might change due to an ATV group
in the Chicago area) downlink: 446.025 MHz We hope to set a distance
record between Toledo OH and Independence MO...
APRS will be WB9SA-11 on 144.99 and WB9SA-12 on 144.39 and on 28.222
MHz a beacon transmitting CW and 110 baud ASCII RTTY
We are hoping to exceed 120,000 feet again this year and may also have
it climb more slowly than last year. If winds are light, we will try
for 500 feet/minute which could result in a 5 hour flight.
The second balloon will have ATV operating near cable channel 59
433.25MHz and 437.75 MHz audio call sign WB9SA, APRS will be 144.39
WB9SA-14
This balloon will probably reach 100,000 feet with an ascent rate of
about 1000 feet/minute. Total
flight time of about 2.5 hours
Scouts earning the Radio merit badge will be looking for QSO's later
in the day. We will have all modes and all bands available, and will
use what works best.. all weekend.
Space Jam is put on by Troop 17 in Champaign IL and Crew 272 in
Fountain County Indiana. Amateur Radio operators from IL and IN are
helping out this year! Special thanks to SIU's Prof. David Williams
K9UH for helping with everything this year! And DePauw's Prof. Howard

Walker K9BKW, WB9SA Trustee, and all the Scouts at Space Jam thank
AMSAT, ARRL, and the local clubs and Ham's for all they do to help
make Space Jam a big Success year after year! Space UP!
