Dear Cook County ARES® Members and Friends:
It's not too late to volunteer for amateur radio
public service events this weekend!
On Saturday 12 June, hams from a dozen counties
and at least two states will be helping with the
Madison-Chicago 200 Relay. This is a relay race
that extends from Madison WI to Chicago.
Surprise! This event has almost twice the number
of teams registered as last year, so we will be
twice as busy!
On Sunday 13 June, hams will be providing
communications for the American Diabetes
Association's Tour de Cure bicycle fundraising
event. Everyone knows someone who has been
affected by diabetes.
And don't forget the Prairie State CERT Challenge
on June 26.
Won't you please help with these important events?
More info and volunteer coordinator contact
information below.
Thanks and 73

The Madison-Chicago 200 Mile Relay (MC200) is a
really unique, team running relay race. This
requires a really special communications team to
cover this amount of real estate. This event will
use the same assets as a two day, two state
emergency communications operation.
This unique 200 mile, team adventure running relay
race begins at 7 AM on Friday, June 11th in
Madison, Wisconsin, continues for approximately 30
hours and finishes mid-day Saturday, June 12th in
Chicago, Illinois.
This will be the sixth year that this major,
national event is being held in the
Midwest. Monies raised by this event help support
the Special Olympics of Wisconsin and Illinois.
This is a wonderful opportunity for all licensed
radio operators as communicators for this exercise
regardless of your experience. We will need many,
many volunteers for help with the preparation as
well as the actual event in June.

Amateur Radio will again be supporting the
American Diabetes Assn. with their 'Tour de Cure'
fundraising event. We could still use a few more
operators for the ADA Chicago Tour de Cure on
Sunday June 13th. The course has changed this
year, and moved back into a lot of the same area
that it occupied 3 years ago with a few
changes. The start/finish is now at
Wheaton/Warrenville South HS in Wheaton.
We are responsible for:
- Helping to provide SAG (Support and Gear)
service for the ride
- Staffing the rest stops to provide
communications to and from the start/finish.
- Shadowing ride officials to keep in touch with
our comm. Team
- Providing advance notice of possible severe
weather and helping to implement plans to keep
riders safe.

PRAIRIE STATE CERT CHALLENGE
Date: June 26 (Sat)
Location: Bensenville
Event: IEMA Prairie State CERT Challenge
Contact: Bob Langsfeld WB9TZC
E-mail and more info: <http://pages.ripco.net/~ormos/challenge-2010.html>
Chicago-area hams are invited to help with
communications support for the 2010 Prairie State
CERT Challenge in Bensenville on Saturday 26 June
2010.
The CERT* Challenge is an exercise which will give
up to 20 teams of CERT volunteers from around the
state of Illinois an opportunity to practice and
demonstrate the skills learned in CERT training,
including: triage, treatment, transport, search,
rescue, fire suppression, cribbing, size-up, and
others.
For Chicago-area hams, this is a unique
opportunity to demonstrate our skills and
usefulness to IEMA and local emergency management
officials, and to CERT members, who are a
particularly receptive audience to amateur
radio. In another sense, this is a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, because the event
will take place in a two-block section of
Bensenville which is slated for demolition later
this summer as part of Chicago's O'Hare
Modernization Program.
Morning (0630--1230) and afternoon (1200--1630)
shifts are available. Times are somewhat
flexible. We particularly need people for the
afternoon.
