Dear Cook County ARES Members and Friends:
The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago will be
hosting an Information and Recuiting evening on
Monday, Febrary 11, for prospective volunteers for
its Disaster Services Technology Team (DSTT).
This is a great opportunity to learn more about
how the Red Cross employs technology in responding
to disasters, and how you can join their team of
dedicated technology volunteers.
A personal note: I encourage all with an interest
in the Red Cross to attend. I have worked with the
DSTT for several years and have found it
interesting, challenging, and rewarding. The Red
Cross is one of the busiest disaster response
organizations around, which means that there are
many opportunities for technology volunteers to
serve.
More information on the February 11 activity, and
a contact e-mail for questions and RSVPs, is in
the announcement below.

SUBJECT: American Red Cross of Greater Chicago
Invites Prospective Disaster Services Technology
Volunteers to Information and Recruiting Evening
The Disaster Services Technology Team (DSTT)
(formerly known as the "Response Technology Team")
invites you to a Disaster Services Technology Team
Information and "How to Volunteer" presentation.
This informative and "one-stop-shop" to becoming a
Red Cross DST volunteer will be on Monday,
February 11, 2008, from 7:00 - 9:00pm at the Red
Cross office located at 544 W. Northwest Highway,
Arlington Heights, IL, 60004.
Disaster Services Technology is the technical
backbone of the Red Cross Disaster Services
response to national disasters and the three to
four local disasters which occur every day of the
year in the Greater Chicago, seven-county chapter.
DST is responsible for providing and supporting
voice and data communications and networks, radio
systems, technical support, and more. Specially
trained and certified volunteers also maintain,
train and deploy with the Emergency Communications
Response Vehicle (ECRV). The ECRV is a
sophisticated and complex vehicle which deploys
anywhere in the United States in less than four
hours from activation, and does so frequently.
During this presentation you will learn about what
services are provided by the Red Cross and
specifically, how DST makes that service delivery
possible. The evening's presentation will be
fast-paced and informative. The ECRV will be
available for your viewing. Representatives from
the chapter's People Resources and national
deployment group will be on-hand to register
interested volunteers.
If you are interested in finding out more about
volunteering for the Red Cross Disaster Services
Technology Team, please join us. We think your
time will be well-spent.
To ensure adequate refreshments and seating please
RSVP to Fred Pampel at "fcp0 at sbcglobal.net".
