[ILHam] Satellite Work

I have a 2M Ht (Yaesu VX-170), and am interested in working the easy sats at low elevations when they pass. I have been doing some reading lately, and have gotten much info that has left me with questions. 

1. Do you have to be able to full duplex, or can single band mono work?


2. Arrow antennas have been mentioned, as have AL800(?) I think it was. 

If this happens to be off-topic for this list, can someone reccomend a list?
