The North Shore Radio Club will link its Chicago and Winnetka repeaters March
9 for the 8:00 p.m. CST net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz,
+600 Hz, PL 107.2 Hz) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz, PL 100.0 Hz).
However, please check 2-meters if you don't hear us on UHF. It's suggested that the
operator pause for about a second after keying the microphone to allow the
linkage to pick up the request to transmit, especially on the 440 band.
In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, this week's net will include the RAIN
Report and Amateur Radio Newsline. The RAIN Report is "VHF - Then and Now" When did
you discover the VHF ham bands, those above 10 meters? RAIN's
Founder/Producer, Hap Holly, KC9RP, made his first 2-meter contact in the late 70s. CQ
magazine VHF columnist and CQ VHF magazine Editor Joe Lynch, N6CL, began dabbling on
those bands more than 4 decades ago. This week we excerpt from his 2005
Dayton Hamvention presentation entitled "VHF, Then and Now".
Amateur Radio Newsline reports Ham radio aids in the Philippines following a
deadly mudslide, a federal report says ham radio did well during and after
hurricane Katrina, a strange intruder into many radios and SuitSat is now
confirmed as being Q-R-T.
All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Dave, N3BXY, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and Newsline,
and after Newsline.

Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
