The North Shore Radio Club will link its repeaters February 16 for the 8:00
p.m. CST net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz, +600 Hz, PL
107.2 Hz) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz, PL 100.0 Hz). However, please check
2-meters if you don't hear us on UHF. It's suggested that the operator pause
for about a second after keying the microphone to allow the linkage to pick up
the request to transmit, especially on the 440 band.

In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, this week's net will include the RAIN
Report and Amateur Radio Newsline. The RAIN Report is "The Story Behind Suit Sat"
Part One. Imagine an empty Russian space suit stuffed with clothing--and a ham
radio--being jettisoned from the International Space Station as a scientific
experiment. Sounds like a plot from a 'B' sci-fi movie? As that old saying goes
"Truth is stranger than fiction." Suit Sat actually IS an empty Russian space
suit that really does contain a 2-meter handheld transceiver. It was
literally shoved into space from the International Space Station, February 3.
Unfortunately Suit Sat's automated voice transmissions on 145.99 MHz have not been
widely heard as was hoped. Though millions of terrestrial scanner listeners won't
hear Suit Sat, is this makeshift satellite project still considered a
success? RAIN's Founder/Producer, Hap Holly, KC9RP, posed that question to Steve
Bible, N7HPR, designer of the Suit Sat controller. Steve is the Vice President of
TAPR, the Tucson Amateur Packet Radio Corp., and an Applications Engineer for
Micro Chip Technology.

Amateur Radio Newsline also reports on Suitsat, which is on-orbit, as well as
Peter One Island is on the air and another revision to Question Pool Element
2.

All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Marilyn, W9LUO, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and
Newsline, and after Newsline.

73,
Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
