The North Shore Radio Club will link its repeaters October 20 for the 8:00
p.m. CDT net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz, +600 Hz, PL
107.2
Hz.) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz, PL 100.0 Hz). However, please check
2-meters if you don't hear us on UHF. It's suggested that the operator pause
for about a second after keying the microphone to allow the linkage to pick
up
the request to transmit, especially on the 440 band.
In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, the NSRC net includes the RAIN report and
AR Newsline. The RAIN report for this week is "The Danger of RF Safety" Part
1 The issue as to whether RF is dangerous to your health has generated a great
deal of research. However, Dr. Greg Lapin, N9GL, a member of the North Shore
Club, cautions us to be wary of findings and statistics attributed to such
research. This week we bring you a 2004 Dayton Hamvention talk given by Dr.
Lapin, a member of the IEEE Committee on Man and Radiation as well as Chair of the
ARRL's Safety committee.
Amateur Radio Newsline reports a ham says that Amateur Radio and the Family
Radio Service can work together to save lives while experts testify that
more spectrum may not be the answer to the emergency communications crisis.
All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Mark, WA9IVH, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and Newsline,
and after Newsline.

Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
