York Radio Club Free Amateur Radio Class March 12-13, 2005
The York Radio Club will conduct a free, two day Amateur Radio class
on Saturday, March 12, and Sunday March 13, 2005. An official FCC
exam session will be available at the end of the class on Sunday.
Those who pass the test will receive an FCC Amateur Radio Technician
Class License.
The free two day class will be held at the Elmhurst Fire Department
Station #1, located at 404 N. York St. in Elmhurst, Illinois from 9:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days. The class is free and open to the
public. Anyone with an interest in amateur radio is invited to join
the class. All ages are welcome.
"The material is not difficult," said club president Chuck Hopper,
K9PLX, "but we strongly encourage you to prepare as much as possible
before the class. Our club website, www.yorkradioclub.com, has
helpful links for all of the information you need."
The class will be taught by Hopper, Don Mocarski, KB9SWI, and Larry
Vincenti, KC9GBN. These club members are professional educators with
years of teaching experience.
Class participants will use "Now You're Talking," 5th edition,
published by the American Radio Relay League as the textbook. The
book is available at bookstores, libraries, or from the publisher.
The Technician Class license is the entry level amateur radio license,
and knowledge of Morse code is not required.
