The North Shore Radio Club will probably link two of its repeaters on July 21
for the 8:00 p.m. net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz, +600
Hz., PL 107.2 Hz.) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz., PL 100.0 Hz.).
However, please check 2-meters if you don't hear us on UHF. It's suggested that the
operator pause for about a second after keying the microphone to allow the
linkage to pick up the request to transmit, especially on the 440 band.
In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, the NSRC net includes the RAIN report and
AR Newsline. The RAIN report, "Fairview Students Talk to ARISS" One of the few
Amateur Radio outreach programs that garners significant publicity is ARISS,
the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station project. Periodically
you'll hear a story a contact between a school and ARISS astronauts. Chances are,
however, you've never actually heard such a contact. Earlier this year the
students at Fairview elementary school in Mt. Prospect, Illinois utilized ARISS
to speak with NASA Science Officer and Expedition-10 Commander, Dr. Leroy Chiao
, KE5BRW, aboard the International Space Station. This was Chiao's second
space mission. In his spare time Dr. Chiao enjoyed photographing earth ... and
talking with school kids here on terrafirma. This week we bring you his February
10, 2005 conversation with the students at Fairview elementary school via
Amateur Radio.
Amateur Radio Newsline reports Jack Gerritsen gets his day in court and
another 120 in jail for threatening a ham on the air, Philippine hams may lose the
70 centimeter band and Google makes a big cash infusion into B-P-L.
All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Marilyn, W9LUO, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and Newsline,
and after Newsline.

Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
