Dear Cook County ARES Members and Friends:

Thanks to those of you who tried to check in to
the Cook County ARES net tonight. Unfortunately,
it seems that the SARA repeater is out of service.

We were able to run a brief net via simplex on the
repeater output frequency, and got a few
check-ins.

This incident serves as a reminder that repeaters
will not always be available. We should all be
prepared to use simplex, relaying traffic of other
stations as needed.

For those who were not able to check in tonight,
I'd like to pass along a couple of announcements
regarding severe weather spotting classes:

The Advanced Spotter Training Seminar sponsored by
DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and
Emergency Management will be held at Wheaton
College on Saturday, March 12. Space is limited,
advance registration is required, and there is a
fee. Participants from prior years should have
received a flier. For more information, contact
  DuPage County OEM at 630 682 7925.

Al Silver W9ZJX announced that the Schaumburg
Amateur Radio Club will be hosting a Skywarn
Severe Weather Spotter training class in
Schaumburg on February 9 at 7:00 PM. Space is
limited, but some seats are still available. For
more information or to reserve a seat, please
  contact Al at 847 884 0263.

The National Weather Service has posted their
  spotter training schedule:

Please join us for the Cook County ARES Net next
month on Wednesday, February 23, at 9:00 PM CST.
