The North Shore Radio Club will link its repeaters December 8 for the 8:00
p.m. CST net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz, +600 Hz, PL
107.2
Hz) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz, PL 100.0 Hz). However, please check
2-meters if you don't hear us on UHF. It's suggested that the operator pause
for about a second after keying the microphone to allow the linkage to pick
up
the request to transmit, especially on the 440 band.

In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, the NSRC net includes the RAIN report and
AR Newsline. The RAIN report for this week is "Contesting for Beginners" If
you're new to ham radio or are just getting back on the HF bands after years of
inactivity, you may have found the proliferation of contests over the decades
has generated some, shall we say  ... challenging conditions for weekend
warriors. Well rather than grousing about contesters and their BIG signals that (to
put it politely) occupy major swaths of the low bands, why not jump into one
with both feet ... or just one if you are a little shy. To get you headed in
the right direction this week we present an excerpt from the 2005 Dayton
Hamvention presentation by veteran Vermont contester Mitch Stern, W1SJ.

Amateur Radio Newsline reports that the governor of Massachusetts dismisses
Amateur Radio's role in Emergency Communications in a televised press
conference; a California ham vows to fight to keep his tower and the debate over
regulation by bandwidth continues.

All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in. Check-ins are taken by net
control Mark, WA9IVH, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and Newsline,
and after Newsline.

73,
Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
