The North Shore Radio Club will link its Winnetka repeaters August 18 for the
8:00 p.m. net. Check in on the two meter repeater (147.345 MHz, +600 Hz., PL
107.2 Hz.) or the 440 repeater (442.075 +5MHz., PL 100.0 Hz.). However, please
check 2-meters if you don't hear us on UHF. It's suggested that the operator
pause for about a second after keying the microphone to allow the linkage to
pick up the request to transmit, especially on the 440 band.

In addition to local traffic, and John Wass with the local hamfest and
American Radio Relay League (ARRL) news, the NSRC net includes the RAIN report and
AR Newsline. The RAIN report, "The Transitioning  of AMSAT"  Scarcely a week
goes by that we don't read or here about another contact between astronauts
licensed as Amateur Radio operators through the ARISS program, speaking to school
kids here on terra firma from the International Space Station. Some of you new
hams may not realize ham radio's presence in space all started with AMSAT,
the Radio Amateur Satellite Corporation and its Oscar series of satellites.
AMSAT North America is in transition these days according to its President,
Richard Hambly, W2GPS, who made his first ham radio satellite contact on Oscar AO6
back in 1976. This week we bring you an excerpt from his 2005 Dayton
Hamvention talk regarding the current state of the U.S. ham radio satellite program.

Amateur Radio Newsline reports that the numbers are in and the trend is
status quo in the growth of ham radio.  Also the B-P-L battle moves North and ham
hams at a convention in Utah become emergency first responders.

All licensed amateurs are welcome to check in.  Check-ins are taken by net
control Leo, KC9GLI, at the beginning of the net, between RAIN and Newsline, and
after Newsline.

Marilyn Tschannen Gardner, W9LUO
