Dear ARES Members and Friends:
Cook County ARES will hold our Fall 2003 Simulated
Emergency Test (SET) on Sunday, 2 Nov 2003.
Amateurs interested in emergency and public
service communications are invited to participate,
regardless of whether they reside in Cook County.
The SET will consist of two parts:
(a) an emergency preparedness self evaluation;
and
(b) a mini "Field Day" exercise.
I will post reported scores for both the
self-evaluation and the mini "Field Day" exercise
on the ARES web site.
The self evaluation form (and other SET details)
will be available via the Cook County ARES web
page http://ares.n9nl.com/ by Sunday morning. I
am aware that some people lack internet access at
home. If you wish to participate, please contact
me ASAP and I will get the information to you some
other way. Please complete the self-evaluation
form on Sunday and report your score to me via any
of the following means:
(a) by radio during the mini Field Day;
(b) by radiogram-formatted message transmitted
via an NTS net no later than 0000 UTC on 06
Nov 2003;
(c) by e-mail;
(d) or by postal mail.
Self-evaluation scores received via method A, and
self-evaluation scores received via method B
before 0000 UTC on 10 Nov 2003, will receive extra
points as an incentive.
The mini Field Day exercise will be conducted on
assigned 2m frequencies via simplex during a
one-hour period on Sunday afternoon. We will
announce the time and frequencies of the mini
Field Day by telephone, e-mail, and the web page,
on Sunday morning. If you have registered in Cook
County ARES, we will call either your preferred
telephone number if you designated one on your
ARES registration form, or your home telephone
number. If you wish to update your telephone
numbers, please contact me ASAP.
Expect to participate in the mini Field Day from a
location other than your home, using emergency
power, radios, and antennas. However, there will
be minimal travel involved. There will be scoring
incentives for participating from field locations
and for using emergency power and equipment.
People unable to participate from a field location
may participate from home, but will not receive
the scoring incentives.
I will listen on the SARA repeater for stations
that may have questions or problems, but we do not
plan to activate the Cook County ARES net on the
SARA repeater for this exercise.
IMPORTANT: If you wish to participate in the SET
and are not already a registrant in Cook County
ARES, we have no way to contact you by e-mail or
phone. Accordingly, in order to get the detailed
instructions for this exercise, you will either
need to contact me by phone or e-mail, ASAP, or
visit our web page ( <http://ares.n9nl.com/> ) on
Sunday morning.
