All Chicago-area amateurs interested in emergency and
public service communications are invited to
participate in the Cook County ARES Net. The net will
be conducted on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 2100
local (Chicago) time, on the 146.88 MHz (R-600 PL107.2)
SARA repeater. The first session of the net will be on
Wednesday, April 23. We invite all amateurs with
2-meter privileges to participate; you need not be a
member of ARES, the ARRL, or any other organization.
Check-ins from residents of all counties (not just
Cook) are welcome.

One purpose of the net is to allow those interested in
emergency and public service communications to
demonstrate their emergency communications readiness.
Accordingly, we encourage all participants to check in
using their emergency equipment, emergency antennas,
and emergency power, if possible.

Another purpose of the net is to facilitate cooperation
and coordination among the various emergency and public
service communications groups within Cook County and in
adjacent counties. The net will carry announcements of
upcoming amateur radio public service and training
opportunities. We particularly welcome announcements
from amateur radio groups that are planning public
service events and may need help from some additional
radio operators.

In addition, during future net sessions, we plan to
present a brief education/training segment related to
emergency and public service communications each month.
Additional resources on the subject matter of the
training will be distributed by e-mail to those on our
mailing list, and will also be available by visiting
the Cook County ARES Web Page:

We thank the Board of Directors and the members of the
Suburban Amateur Repeater Association for their
permission to use their excellent repeater.
