most icom transceivers use thermistors placed near final transistors to monitor temperatures.I have seen some radios with 2 thermistors for high & low speed fan control. A thermistor failure can result in a condition where the fan will not operate or operates continuously.I have had thermistor failures in 2 Icom radios. Jay....NE2Q

Hi All.....It is good to be back on the Icom reflector.... now that I have acquired a couple new (to me) ICOM radios. (IC-7000 and an IC-7100).The R-7000 is in nice clean condition but there is an anomaly.... the cooling fan comes on at power up and runs continuously until shut down. My other IC-7000 does not exhibit this characteristic. The previous owner tells me that this did not happen while he had the radio. I am wondering if this is a parameter in the set menu or possibly the secret, hidden “service” screen.Or, is something wrong with the fan sensing circuit?I would be happy to hear from anyone who has more experience with the IC-7000.Thanks for reading....73,Michael, W1RC/VE2XL----Your Moderator: Dick Flanagan K7VC: icom-owner at mailman.qth.netIcom Users Net: Sundays, 1700Z, 14.316 MHzIcom FAQ: http://www.qsl.net/icom/To support QSL/QTH.net: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
