[ICOM] [ICON] Icom 756 series and ESD problems

Hi John,

There is a chip in it that was superseded for that very reason. The 756 pro
is not quite as vulnerable as the Pro 2 and 3 but it can be a problem. I
had a 756 Pro and had that chip go bad so I sent it to Cal down in
Carrollton, TX. He repaired it and installed the replacement chip. It
never caused any problem after, but I disconnected it from power and the
antenna when not in use from then on. Being of that vintage there is no way
to know if the chip has been changed, but I would look into sending it to
someone for a complete alignment and check that chip.

If you are interested in Cal's website address, drop me a note. I am over
in Sulphur.

I have seen quite a few reports where the Icom 756PRO2 and 756PRO3 seems
to be really sensitive to ESD (electrostatic discharge) and this can knock
out the transmitter by blowing the driver transistor. Some of these
reports are from people I know and trust when it comes to radios. Do the
Icom 756 non-pro (which I purchased recently) or the 756PRO have this same
issue?
