[ICOM] Icom 756 series and ESD problems

Hi John. I have the PRO which I purchased in Tokyo the week it was announced. The only issue I've had was when a direct lightning struck my utility line, near my house. The antenna was disconnected and grounded. The first thing I checked was the PRO and it fired right up. It was connected to the Astron 35.
As I tried various electronic items in the house, about 1/2 of them were NFG.
A couple of months later, I turned on the PRO and while the Rcv was fine, it had NO output.
My theory was that the strike came in the Neutral leg somehow. Before I had it repaired, I purchased some spare parts (while I could. IC 151 comes to mind). It was just a SMD diode that popped. But later testing shows it also took out an SM inductor on the ACC connector which is connected to a Rigblaster.

I have two 110' towers but the lightning chose the 30' power line.

Ah, life in Florida....

Subject: [ICOM] Icom 756 series and ESD problems

I have seen quite a few reports where the Icom 756PRO2 and 756PRO3 seems
to be really sensitive to ESD (electrostatic discharge) and this can knock
out the transmitter by blowing the driver transistor. Some of these
reports are from people I know and trust when it comes to radios. Do the
Icom 756 non-pro (which I purchased recently) or the 756PRO have this same
issue?
