Qsl on all comments about Icom Dual Bander, have several Icoms and love
em all. Note however that there is a dual bander that will do same band
at the same time in both vfo's, and it is the Kenwood TM-D710AG - From
http://www.kenwood.com/usa/com/amateur/tm-d710ga/ about two thirds the
way down that page it says:
"Dual wave receive on same band (VxV, UxU) In addition to simultaneous
receive on both VHF and UHF bands, the device can receive two
frequencies on the very same band."
For example I frequently configure mine to perform APRS functions on
144.39 with a beacon that says I am monitoring 146.52. At the same time
on the other vfo am monitoring 146.52 ... or what ever other frequency
(simplex or duplex) or band I am wanting to use. Can also configure
memories to do the same thing.
In addition one can use the built in Kenwood feature called SkyCommand.
A Kenwood walkie talkie can then control the dual band mobile rig from
the dual band ht. Including access to a Kenwood HF rig interfaced to the
dual band mobile. Both the mobile dual bander, and the dual bander ht
have built in TNC's that facilitate the digital remote control features,
while doing the analog voice receive and transmit at the same time. Its
way kool to operate at a quarter watt on the ht and go out on hf at two
hundred watts (ts-480hx).
