Eric,
I would drop a note to Scott Malcom and see if he has any insight. He posts this email this way to slow down spam mts(at)toledotel.com
It has been too many years for me to know off the top of my head. I do know there were many changes between the two versions including circuit board changes. Once we had at Icom America a listing of some 17 or 18 updates for the IC-751 which many were cutting a circuit board trace and placing a jumper wire in its place. This was apparently due to internal RF floating about.
The 751A came standard with some filters the 751 did not so there were differences.
Wish I had a better answer for you.

Subject: [ICOM] IC-751 vs 751A
Good afternoon,
I have an Icom IC-751A that has been sitting here with an unrepairable RF Unit board. I recently found a lead on an RF Unit board from an IC-751. Are they interchangeable?
I recall that the CPU/PLL circuitry was upgraded from the 751 to the 751A, but is the RF unit the same?
Thanks.
Eric
