Doesn't matter. There can be corrosion or dirt. I would back off the
screws about 1/2 turn and re-tighten. Use the following URL to check on
possible solution:

and look at the files listed related to the 2100. Maybe they will help.
If microphone, I would try swapping cord ends and see if it persists.
